Austin Marathon & Half Marathon turns 25!
FEBRUARY 14, 2016
Odyssey School is gearing up for race day and the 25th Anniversary of the Austin Marathon and Half Marathon: Sunday, February 14. We are so honored and proud (for the fifth year in a row) to be one of the 25 Austin non-profits selected to benefit from Austin Gives Miles. Odyssey students, parents, teachers, and staff work extremely hard to prepare the water stop — arriving at dawn to set up tables and cups, mix Gatorade, and prepare a designated cheering station. Students have also been working hard on creating encouraging and entertaining posters and signs for race day. Odyssey’s group of volunteers is consistently praised for the hard work and dedication given to this endeavor.
Thousands of spectators and supporters will line the race route to offer energy, excitement, and encouragement to all of the marathon and half marathon participants. Runners will begin their journey on Congress Avenue, running through Tarrytown, UT Campus, and other historic Austin areas, finishing just south of the State Capitol Building. In true Live Music Capital of the World form, dozens of solo musicians and bands will be performing all along the race route, and remember, you can use the marathon tracking app to track your favorite runners and follow them (virtually) right to the finish line! Odyssey’s Head of School, the Executive Board, as well as all Odyssey families and friends are so appreciative of the time and energy each team member has put into training, fundraising, and spreading the word about the amazing work Odyssey does for students who learn differently. The team’s efforts are making a difference in these students’ lives and ensuring that Odyssey can continue its mission and commitment to the development of academic excellence and self-acceptance for students who struggle in traditional educational settings. We believe that all children can be successful in their intellectual, creative, and social development. Our goal is to help every student discover their individual potential for greatness.
The Moody Foundation has generously agreed to provide a matching grant to the 25 Austin Gives Miles charities participating in the Austin Marathon! This means they will match all funds raised for Odyssey School up to $10,000!
