We are in our first full week back after our long winter break. We hope everyone enjoyed a great time together and also hope that everyone has been able to return refreshed and relaxed. Odyssey School has so many exciting things coming up in the next few months. Of course, we have Service Learning on Friday, January 27th — students and teachers always enjoy getting out into the community to give back to other non-profits.
February will be an exciting month for us. Portfolio Conferences will be held on Thursday and Friday, February 9th and 10th. Remember, on these two days: students and families only come to campus for their respective portfolio conference time. For these conferences, students are responsible for creating and giving a presentation to their families and teachers detailing the school-year so far. Students present completed work and projects and discuss the relevance and value of what they’ve been doing this year, socially and academically. This is a time for each of our students to shine and gain useful and necessary 21st Century Communication Skills. It is also a time for students to reflect on their accomplishments as well as on their future endeavors. Our families are consistently impressed by the students’ presentations.
On Friday, February 17, we will hold our annual Valentine Breakfast and Pep Rally in preparation for our participation in the Austin Marathon on Sunday, February 19th. The breakfast will be held in our lunchroom, and we will enjoy muffins, breakfast tacos, coffee, and juice and we will thank Team Odyssey for participating in the marathon on Odyssey’s behalf. Our Water Stop location has changed this year so please click here for the details and to register to volunteer. Remember, marathon service is required for all staff, teachers, and students, and, in exchange for your Sunday, there will be no school on Monday, February 20th.
Thanks to everyone who has donated or is raising money on behalf of Odyssey School. We only have $3,019 to go to reach our $10,000 goal! If we hit the $10,000 mark, The Moody Foundation will match these funds 100%! That’s $20,000 toward the education of students who learn differently!
Also, we need your votes for the RUN LIKE THE WINDLER Charity Chaser contest. Chikage Windler, CBS Austin Chief Meteorologist, will start the 2017 Austin Marathon in LAST PLACE in the name of one of the Austin Marathon official charities. For every marathon runner she passes on her 26.2 mile journey, High Five Events will donate $1.25 to the selected charity.

We are currently in the lead in this contest! But, only by a small margin. Please help any way you can so that we can win this amazing opportunity and our students can benefit from the funds raised and awarded!
