Odyssey Rocks!

On Saturday, April 16, we hosted our annual Spring Benefit, Odyssey Rocks! We joined together as a community at Shoal Crossing Event Center in Central Austin to dine, listen to live music, and raise money for Odyssey School. Our corporate sponsors for this event were Financial Corporation of America, H-E-B, and Landmark College. We had over 100 auction items donated by local Austin businesses that raised over $6,000 for the school. Parents, Board Members, alumni, students, friends and staff made up the generous audience. This year our Fund-a-Need campaign was for new carpet, which is so desperately needed. Odyssey put together this video to capture the need and inspire donors.

After the video played, our Head of School, John Brinson, and Aaron Davidson, one of our Board of Directors, kicked off the pledges for this effort. It was truly incredible to see the donations roll in on the screen featuring a live fundraising thermometer. Odyssey also had a fun visual created where a carpet square would be placed on our school floor plan for every $1,000 donated in hopes to cover the entire school. The crowd rallied together and raised $11,350 for new carpet and other repairs for the school! We cannot thank our donors enough for their support, and we are so excited to begin these repairs and renovations this summer.

IMG_9050We were also lucky to have the Odyssey School Band, Back in Black and White, led by Jason Birdwell, play for us. Claudia, the lead singer’s beautiful voice brought chills to the crowd as she sang “Eye of the Tiger”.IMG_9030

The crowd took to the floor and danced The Twist when they performed “Twist & Shout.” The band received a standing ovation at the end of their set.

IMG_9076Our headliner, Third Language, kept the good vibes rolling with hits like “Proud Mary,” “Don’t Stop Believing,” and “We Are Family.” It was definitely a fantastic evening of music!

Odyssey School is grateful to have such a caring and fun community of supporters. Thank you for joining us and helping us continue our mission of supporting students who learn differently.
